i have a 4 year old filly, she’s pasture boarded year round. she goes barefoot in winter. i only have time to go out on weekends to ride and take care of her, and i would like to know how to keep snow from packing in her hooves. i know theres a bunch of things out there, but i dont have access to a nearby tack store and i dont buy anything online. i heard cooking oils and baby oil work, but my horse is afraid of anything that sprays. ive tried to work with her on it, but she’s afraid of the noise and it will be awhile before she gets over it. could i apply something like that with a rag or cloth, or even right out of the bottle (baby oil). anything else thats easily in reach that i can use?

Just buy baby oil from the drug store or grocery store in a pour bottle.
You can even go to the store and buy Pam or whichever cooking spray, quickly spray it onto a cloth or sponge out of sight from the horse and then go wipe it on.
my uncle swears by wd40, but that is a spray, and the items your describing it sounds like the oil is what keeps it from packing, so try a few things you never know what will work, maybe crisco from a can since cooking spray is supposed to work so well.
Vaseline – it’s cheap, you can get it anywhere and as long as your horse doesn’t mind her feet being picked up and touched you’ll be fine and it works good.
Vaseline or Baby Oil… Im a vaseline fan myself, but oil based products will keep it dry.
Like Dogs07 said- Vaseline is an old trick for preventing snow from packing.
