Which Stand Mixer Should I Buy?

Ok, I’ve always wanted a KitchenAid stand mixer, and I was finally going to break down and buy one, but I was checking out the reviews online, and it seems that the KitchenAid mixers, which used to be manufactured by Hobart, are now under the ‘Whirlpool’ name, and there has been some trouble with plastic parts and oil leaking.
These are the two I was considering:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det…http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det…
So now I’m also looking at the Viking and Cuisinart as well.http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det…http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det…
Anyone who has any info, I’d love to hear some opinions! I want one that isn’t going to break down on me after a few uses. Oh, and I’m looking at using this mainly for baking, if that factors in.

Definitely Kitchen Aid…they still have ones that are all metal with no plastic parts. My kitchen only consists of kitchen aid and cuisinart. I find that kitchen aid is the best for everything except anything to do with coffee or tea (for those we only have cuisinart). I suggest going to department stores and looking for older models of the Kitchen Aid mixers…just my opinion…

Winnie, as Joey will contest to this, come have a look in my garage and basement. I have enough stuff in there to furnish another home. You will probably find what you are looking for and I would be happy if you would take it. As a matter of fact, send all your friends over and lets call it a free garage sale.

Hmm, I bought a Kitchen Aid about 7 years ago, I don’t have any plastic parts on mine, however I love it and it still is like new, I know cuisinart has become popular but I am thinking they just might be overrated. I’ll be back with more info. later. :)

  • Stahrgir…

KitchenAid “Artesan” is more that any home kitchen will need.
    Got one and keeping it.
Watch the watts on the other models to make sure there is enough power to mix thick batters or breads.
No less than 325 watts power.
    Good luck

Personally I would choose the kitchen aid, the are most use in commercial kitchen, along with the cuisinart. But for home use, I think the Kitchen aid is great.

I have the second kitchen-aid mixer you posted at home and it is the best! It’s quiet, incredibly durable, and totally worth what you pay for it. I say you should go with that one.

I’d go for a KitchenAid, but I’d go take a look at Costco first… you get a larger motor (475 Watts) with extras at the price of the less expensive one you listed.

If my 17 y/o KA broke today, I’d go buy another one tomorrow. I love it that much!
Honestly, I think the VIking and Cuisinart mixers are kind of ugly.

After doing a lot of research, I brought myself a kitchen aid last year, and I have not had a problem with it. ( no plastic parts on mine either…they are all metal. )
It is quiet and efficient, with a great wattage… plus the range of colours to pick from are awesome.. ( I have cinnamon! ) I am sure if you hunt around you will still be able to find the older ones .
I am not sure about the viking and cuisinart mixer….personally I would stick to a brand that has a brilliant reputation, and Kitchen Aid has that. You only need to watch any cooking program to see that that is one of the most used brands.
Good luck….I am sure you will be able to track one down somewhere.

I’ve had my Kitchen Aid for a couple years and no plastic parts on mine either – works GREAT and I use mine mainly for baking but I do have the slicer/shredder, grinder, pasta plates attachment package. The reason I picked the kitchen aid over the others is for that reason – I wanted attachments as well. Kitchen Aid has been around forever and has a good reputation and I did not want a product that might suddenly be discontinued. Other companys have been coming out with similar attachments but I just did not want to risk it. I use mine to shred cheese ALL the time and have started making my own ground beef and chicken (so I know there’s no fat lumps and skin ground in as filler!). Kitchen Aid is my first choice and I don’t think I could bake without it now – LOVE it!!!!
